About this project
This handcrafted log holder combines functional metalwork with traditional artistic blacksmithing. Its load-bearing frame is hot-forged from solid steel to keep the basket stable and resist deformation under heavy logs.
Construction and finish:
- Log basket: The curved basket has a sturdy, stiffened fabric liner with rope handles at the sides. This makes the wood easier to carry and keeps bark and sawdust in the basket.
- Forged decoration: A finely forged sun rosette forms the centrepiece, drawing on traditional regional design. Stamped details, scrolls and hanging metal ornaments complete the frame.
- Corrosion protection: The steel is hot-dip galvanised to protect it against corrosion when it comes into contact with damp wood.
- Surface finish: Powder coating and a hand-applied antique brass patina bring out the texture of the forged steel.
