Form and character

About this project

This wrought swing gate with timber infill combines traditional artistic blacksmithing with practical modern construction. Solid steel sections and vertical softwood panels create a sturdy, attractive structure. Precisely curved scrolls and decorative accents give it a classic, elegant style suited to varied property architecture.

Each decorative component is made by traditional hand forging. The anvil and forge are used to hand-shape the steel after heating. This produces individual, precise details. The process gives the components mechanical strength and durability.

Hot-dip galvanising provides lasting corrosion protection. A durable zinc coating protects the steel against rust. This protects the steel from weather exposure and extends service life. The protective treatment reduces the need for frequent maintenance. The protective layer is an iron-zinc alloy.

Powder coating provides an attractive final finish. Powder paint is applied. It forms an even coating. The finish resists scratching, UV radiation, extreme temperatures. The deep black finish highlights the blacksmithing details and helps retain an attractive appearance over time.

The gate can be mounted using expansion fixings, chemical anchors or metal anchors and is compatible with driveway gate automation. A matching pedestrian gate can be made, along with bespoke projects to the customer’s requirements.
